Speaker launches 'Age Appropriate Fitness Protocols'

Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, Y Khemchand today launched the Age Appropriate Fitness Protocols' today at Sports Authority of India, North East Regional Centre (SAI-NERC), Takyel-Imphal.
The launching programme of the 'protocols' under Fit India Movement initiated by the Government of India was also attended by Francis Marwein, Director, SAI-NERC Imphal; Leishangthem Ibomcha, Dronacharya Awardee (Boxing coach) and boxing world champion and Arjuna Awardee, Laishram Sarita Devi as presidium members.
Y Khemchand who attended the programme as the chief guest, expressed concerned over COVID-19 pandemic and situation the growing generation has to face.
A huge battle is underway between human and novel coronavirus and at the same time, the Government of India is undertaking various programmes to encourage fitness to all, he said.
The contagion has claimed lives of many including players, doctors, scientists, he said while urging all to join hands in endorsing the fitness programme initiated by the Government to enhance immunity to the disease.
Speaking at the occasion, Director of SAI-NERC Imphal, Francis Marwein recalled the launch of the Fit India Movement on National Sports Day last year (August 29, 2019) and asserted that age appropriate fitness protocols and guidelines are being disseminated throughout the country to achieve the objectives of Fit India Movement.
Under the protocol, fitness of individuals belonging to different age categories viz, 5-18 years, 18-65 years and above 65 years, are assessed regardless of their social, racial, religious backgrounds, he said, While reiterating that well being and fitness of all will make India a powerful Nation, the Director said that one can undergo fitness tests easily through 'Fit India' mobile application or with the assistance of ever ready officials of Sports Authority of India.
He further maintained that it was mandatory for coaches in SAI to undergo fitness tests twice a year, one in October and another in March.
Dronacharya Awardee, L Ibomcha, also maintained that the programme was a reasonable one and commendable.
He further highlighted the importance of fitness to live longer and happily.
A book on the 'Age Appropriate Protocols and Guidelines' was also launched during the programme.
