Lions Club of Imphal honours teachers

Lions Club of Imphal observed Teachers' Day today at Lions Service Centre, Sangaiprou and awarded four teachers fortheir contribution to the society.
Professor Sanasam Kunjabihari Singh, retired Principal Manipur College, Professor Kongbrailatpam Nabachandra Sharma, retired Principal DM College of Science, Khundrakpam Basanti Devi, retired Principal Lamlong Higher Secondary School and Karam Pramodini Devi, retired Head Mistress CH Iboyaima High School were honoured with simple gifts at the event.
Speaking on the occasion, president of Lions Club of Imphal Lion RK Laksana said that the club has been honouring teachers every year as a permanent project of the club.
The retired teachers spoke about the essence of teachers and urged the teaching community at present to teach with dedication; Earlier in the morning, members of the Lions Club Imphal planted about 100 fruit bearing trees at Home Guard HQ, Lamphelpat under the "Save the Environment" project of the Lions Club International, said a statement issued by Lion M Manas Singh, marketing and communication officer, Lions Club of Imphal today.
Meanwhile, Lions Club of Imphal Valley celebrated its "4th Charter Night Celebration Ceremony of Lions Club of Imphal Valley cum honouring of teachers as part of the observance of Teachers' Day" at Hotel Nirmala, Imphal yesterday.
Speaking at the event, Education Minister Th Radheshyam advocated that inculcation of respecting the elders, parents and teachers as well as other moral values to the younger generations could restore peace and harmony in the State apart from reviving the rich and age-old cultures of the State.
Observing that the missing of moral and social values in the younger generations has degraded the rich cultures and traditions of Manipuri society to a vast extent, the Minister asked teachers and philanthropic organizations like Lions Club of Imphal Valley to infuse to the minds of the younger generations the values of discipline and social values.
He described good and ideal teachers as the "second" parents of children and important members of a society who enlightens the society while underscoring the importance of the role of an ideal teacher in shaping a society towards right direction.
"Good teacher always acts like a candle that consumes itself to show light to the people," he said.
Lion MJF H Manikumar Singh and Thanga AC ex-MLA T Mangibabu among others also attended the function as the guests of honour.
Altogether three teachers namely retired Lecturers.
Ningombam Sanajaobi Devi and G Tomba Sharma and retired teacher Sharda Jain were honoured with certificates, shawls and gifts of appreciation.
Lions Club of Imphal Valley's president Dr N Romi Singh, District chairman KK Patni, member committee chairman Kh Borjendro Singh were also awarded District governor Appreciation Medals during the function.
