Imphal, September 08 2018:
Decrying the 'coming back' of Professor AP Pandey and him resuming his duty as VC, which forced the MUSU, MUTA and MUSA to resume their strike after the unrest in the University had returned to normalcy, Pangal (Manipuri Muslim) Political Forum, Manipur- (PPFM) has urged both the Centre and the State Government to resolve the long standing impasse in the varsity at the earliest.
Observing the disruption in the normalcy, that had returned following the signing of a MoA between the MHRD, State Government and the said three MU communities after months of agitations, PPFM alleged that "there seems to be some influential persons backing AP Pandey as he has been doing whatever he wants".
Addressing a press meet held today at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, PPFM spokesperson MI Khan rued that both the Centre and State Government are taking AP Pandey more important rather than the career of thousands of students.
The Centre and the State Government have not made any sincere attempt to resolve the Manipur University impasse even after it crossed three months, he alleged.
Pandey was sent on leave as the MHRD, State Government on one side and the three MU communities on another side had signed a MoA which provided that the VC (AP Pandey) should be on leave during the period of inquiry and until follow up action on the inquiry report by the competent authority preferably within 15 days.
However, Pandey returned to the State 'all of a sudden' and made many 'controversial' statements through media and provoked the MU communities as well as the people of Manipur, he said.
This led to the MU communities to resume their strike and neither the Central Government and MHRD has not done anything till today to solve the deadlock which appeared fresh, he alleged.
Meanwhile, the State Government keeps on 'sidelining' the issue by claiming that MU is a Central Government University, MI Khan said adding that such attitude of the State Government will only aggravate the crisis in the University.
The MU impasse may have been avoided if the State Government had intervened in time.
But, now the issue has been snowballed and career of thousands of students are uncertain, he said.
"It is high time for both the Central Government and State Government to make their best efforts to bring back normalcy in the University and the State by finding viable solutions," the spokesperson said and urged the Centre and the State Government to do the needful at the earliest and save the careers of the thousands of students, "although it is late" .
