Thoubal police unearths huge cache of arms

Thoubal, November 28 2021:
Thoubal district Police on Sunday arrested three UG cadres and recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition hidden underground in a plastic water tank from Huikap Awang Leikai Chonga Loukol area.
Briefing the media, Thoubal SP Jogeshchandra Haobijam stated that a joint team of District Police and Commando Unit led by additional superintendent of police (Ops) Sachidananda Soibam and Commando OC inspector N Tikendra Meitei assisted by SI L Dhanabir Singh, HC T Jiten and IIC Kh Rambai Singh conducted house to house search operation at-Huikap Awang Leikai Chonga Loukol area around 11:30 am after receiving information that some UG cadres concealed huge quantity of arms and ammunition in the said area.
During the operation at about 1 pm, one person tried to escape on seeing the police team, but was overpowered after a brief chase.
The SP continued that based on his disclosure, the team searched a house and found onegreen plastic water tank (500 litres) buried under ground in a cowshed at about 2 pm.
On digging up the water tank, the joint team recovered one each AK-81 rifle with three magazines, AK-86 with three magazines, M-16 rifle with A4-UBGL (40 mm grenade launcher) and magazine, M-16 with a magazine, RPG launcher and RPG shell; 13 AK-56 with 13 magazines, 200 (7.62 x 39 mm) live rounds and 10 (5.56 mm) live rounds inside the potable water tank.
The person further disclosed name of two other people who helped him in concealing the arms and ammunition, who were then picked up for verification at about 2:30 pm.
All the people involved in hiding the arms and ammunition were formally arrested and handed over to Andro police station along with the recovered arms and ammunition for initiating further necessary legal actions, the SP informed.
