Bakeries without license to be closed

Imphal, August 25 2014:
Taking serious note of several bakeries which were found preparing bakery items under unhygienic condition and flouting safety norms during a massive drive conducted today, the Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS), Students' Wing has decided to close down all the bakeries which do not possesses food safety license within seven days' time.
The drive was conducted by a team of the committee led by its convener Angamba along with media persons at 12 bakeries situated in different parts of the city.
During the drive, some bakeries were found preparing bakery items under unhygienic condition and storing items closed to toilets.
Some were found mixing polluted water with flour for making bread and other items.
Many of them were running without license issued by Food Safety Department.
The 12 bakeries where the drive was conducted today are Payal Bhujiya, Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai; BK Store, Thangmeiband near Nupa Marup; OM Shakti, Thangmeiband; Payal Bakery, Thangmeiband Polem Leikai; Kranti Ladu, Nagamapal Kangjabi; Puja Bakery, Kangjabi Leirak; Sathi Bakery, Babupara; Melon BS Super, Babupara; Sanju Bakery, Babupara; Dev Bhujiya, Babupara; Shompa Bakery, Babupara and Ema Bakery, Babupara.
Later, some quantities of expired bakery items found from Shompa Bakery were set ablaze at Keishampat Junction area.
