Nagaland police personnel arrested

Imphal, January 25, 2012:
Police here said that a Nagaland Armed Police (NAP) personnel was arrested along with arm and ammunition by troops of 42nd Assam Rifles at Pallel in Chandel district of Manipur on Tuesday.
According to the police source, Bengangnunngsang, 28 s/o Samuel, a personnel from 2nd Battalion of Nagaland Armed Police, was arrested along with one AK-56 rifle with three magazines and 86 live rounds by troops of 42nd Assam Rifles at Pallel yesterday at about 8 pm.
The Assam Rifles personnel handed him over to Kakching police station at about 2 pm Wednesday.
It is said that Bengangnunngsang accompanied the security escort of Naga People's Front (NPF) Coordination Member Secretary TN Mannel, but it is not exactly known as to why and how he ended up in the State.
Police are investigating on how he was left behind.
Police also says a case has been registered at Kakching police station in connection with the arrest of the Nagaland police personnel who possessed arm and ammunition.
Meanwhile, personnel of Manipur Rifles (MR) apprehended a suspected militant along with a Chinese hand grenade in Sawongbung area yesterday, a police source said today.
Ahanthem Dumdum @ Vicky, 18 s/o A.Madan, a resident of Sawongbung Gate under Lamlai police station of Imphal East was arrested by personnel of 7th MR while frisking elsewhere in Sawongbung area last night when one Chinese hand grenade fell down from him unobserved on the ground, police said, adding that another man who was with him managed to escaped under the cover of darkness.
