Health camp conducted in Pherzawl

Pherzawl, November 22 2018:
A medical team of 11 doctors, paramedical staff and officials led by Dr Y Premchandra Singh, Diabetologist who is also the Deputy Director (PH) and State Nodal Officer of National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases and Stroke (NPCDCS) under NHM Manipur have conducted special camp for Diabetes, Hypertension and common cancers including Breast, Cervix and Oral cancer at PHC Sibapurilkal, Pherzawl District on November 20 .
The PHC Sibapurilkal is located 553 km away from the District Head Quarter Pherzawl, and the main approach road is from Jiribam which is about 40 km.
As the centre is located in far-flung and difficult area, the functioning of the PHC has been outsourced to an NGO called 'New Life Trust' for better and effective implementation of healthcare activities since December 2016.In the last two years, the 'New Life Trust' work hard to make the said health centre functioning 24x7.PHC Sibapurikhal caters to the health needs of the villagers from 18 villages.
Antenatal check-up, delivery, immunisations, routine general OPD and inpatient services have been made available here.
The visiting state team which include Dr L Tilakeshori SNO Palliative care, Dr Meghanath Angom Gynaecologist DH Chandel, Dr Manoranjan Surgeon DH Chandel, Dr Leangoumang Samte MO Ccpur District, Dr L Suranjoy Singh DNO NCD Imphal East and other State and District officials comprising W Sheirangba State Program Coordinator NCD, Swaminanda Physiotherapist, Asst Programme Manager IE Nongdamba, Technician have conducted NCD orientation training for the staff and awareness campaign to the public.
During the camp, 214 patients having different health conditions were examined for hypertension, diabetes, oral health, Gynae problem, skin diseases while minor operation was also performed to the patients.
Besides, free blood glucose, ECG and BMI test were done for all the patients.
A consultative meeting between the village authority, New Life Trust and visiting State officials was conducted to improve the working condition of the PHC and for better community participation and support.
The meeting also resolved to strengthen the community security support system to thwart any unwanted incident in the hospital campus.
On the second day, the state team and New Life Trust conducted a similar NCD camp at PHC Borobekra, Jiribam District which was also managed by New Life Trust.
The team also assessed the feasibility of upgrading PHC Borobekra and PHSC Durgapur to health and wellness centre for better functioning of the centre.
About 100 patients were examined by the specialists along with free blood sugar and ECG test.
An interaction programme with the ASHAs workers were also held to improve the services given to the community.
Later in the evening, the team visited to the office of Dr Oken, GMO Jiribam and discussed their findings regarding the condition of PHC Borobekra and PHSC Durgapur.
Later, Dr Y Premchandra Singh SNO also inspected the newly opened Jiribam District NCD Cell and Clinic while Dr L Tilakeswari Devi State Nodal Officer National Program of Palliative Care inspected the palliative care unit.
