Imphal, January 22 2019:
Surface Transport Hills Area Drivers Welfare Union Manipur has warned all those concerned against acting against the welfare of the drivers and transporters who are risking their lives for the benefit of the people, stating that it will give befitting reply to those associations concerned who are harming/negatively affecting the drivers.
Speaking to media persons at a location in Imphal today, the union's president A Pukero Eshena claimed that the risks and danger faced by the drivers plying all across the country are nothing compared to those faced by the drivers operating along the State's National Highways.
Pointing out that the drivers brave various dangers and threats to their lives, he said that the union strongly condemns the interference by some associations formed by so called vehicle owners.
He demanded the said organisations not to act in a highhanded manner just because they have more fundings.
The association concerned should immediately let go of the practice of collecting money from the poor drivers for using the newly constructed weight bridge, he warned.
Asking what contributions have been provided to the drivers by the said association, the president of the union demanded the State Government to take up necessary actions against the people who are manipulating the drivers for their vested interest.
