LAYO sports meet cum cultural event starts

Kangpokpi, January 22 2019:
The annual sports meet cum cultural day of Leikot Area Youth Organization (LAYO), a conglomerate of 38 villages was celebrated with traditional pomp and fervour at Leikot village, Kangpokpi district today.
The celebration was opened by Colonel VM Naithani, Commanding Officer, 38th Assam Rifles, said a statement of Kamkhomang Kipgen, president, LAYO.
Welcoming the gathering, Ginpu Kipgen said the event was organised to showcase and sensitize the younger generations about the "cultural legacy that our forefathers had left for us".
It aims at strengthening the fraternal bond among the LAYO member villages, he said.
He thanked the Assam Rifles for many of the humanitarian services it has undertaken in the hill areas.
Speaking on the occasion VM Mathaini, CO of 38 th AR lauded the efforts of the organising committee.
He assured that he will act on the memorandum submitted to his office for levelling of Leikot village playground and provision of water supply in the area, said the statement.
Cultural dances and many other items marked the celebration.
The day also witnessed a friendly football exhibition match between the LAYO XI and the Assam Rifles XI where the latter emerged winner with one goal.
The occasion was attended by Madhav Khatiwada, social worker as the guest of honour and Lamminlun Singsit, gen secy, Kuki Inpi Sadar-hills as the functional president.
Major MK Dongare Post Commander Motbung Post, Major Irfan Huda, Post Commander Kangpokpi post, Kakai Singsit education secy ATSUM, Thangminlen Kipgen vice president KSO GHQ, Michael Lamjathang Haokip gen secy TSA GHQ, Kamkhomang Kipgen president TSA SH, Thangtinlen Haokip gen secy TSA SH and Lalgoulen Haokip education secy KSO SH attended the gala as special guests.
