Imphal, March 21 2013:
Regretting that certain section of the Manipur people's party (MPP) organisation tried to implicate party's former president and general secretary with baseless allegations, former MPP chief S Umananda and general secretary (Organisation) S Maniton Mangang contended that during their short stint as party functionaries campaigns to promote MPP's stature was undertaken.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Umananda said some MPP members contending at a recent party conference regarding financial malpractices by former office bearers is not only an attempt to tarnish their image but also deliberate ploy to dilute promotional activities initiated by the former office bearers.
Pointing out that during the six month tenure (interim period) MPP functionaries organised a panel discussion with the participation of Manipur University faculty members and intellectual members of the society, carried out poster campaigns in support of implementing inner line permit system in the State, conducted programmes related to promotion of foreign direct investment, constituted kendra committees to strengthen party's base, he dismissed the financial malpractice allegations as imaginary and baseless.
The fact that newly elected 14th president of MPP N Sovakiran rejected allegations from certain members at the same conference is a testimony that former office bearers did not deviate from their assigned tasks, expressed Umananda who also exuded confidence that under Sovakiran's leadership MPP will continue to serve the people of Manipur.
S Maniton Mangang was also present during the media briefing.
