Imphal, July 19 2021:
Consequent to the assurance given by chief minister N Biren of delivering food grains if required during the 10-day total curfew imposed for containing the spread of Covid-19, the department of CAF&PD has entrusted FPS agents concerned for home delivery of food grains under NFSA and PMGKAY schemes.
In an order issued Monday, CAF&PD director Ran-jan Yumnam stated that the initiative was taken up considering the requirement for the public to stay indoors and not venture out of their homes unnecessarily except for essential and medical reasons.
It further added that the department has taken up all necessary steps to ensure that people holding ration cards get their due entitlements of rice under NFSA and PMGKAY.
During the curfew, FPS agents under the supervision of DSO of the department have been advised to deliver the monthly rations to the homes of the eligible families.
For people not covered by NFSA or PMGKAY (people not possessing ration cards), their requirement of food grains will be met from the OMSS stock on payment basis at Rs 22 per kg.
The FPS agents of the localities concerned will identify the households who are willing to purchase OMSS rice from the department and assess the quantum of such OMSS rice required, the statement said.
It may be mentioned that under NFSA, AAY households irrespective of the number of family members are entitled to receive 35 Kgs of rice per month and all PHH beneficiaries shall receive 5kgs of rice per person per month.
The issue price of NFSA rice is Rs 3 per kg which is to be borne by the beneficiaries themselves.
Under PMGKAY, ration card holders/beneficiaries will be provided additional rice of 5 kg per person per month free of cost till November this year over and above their monthly NFSA quota.
The distribution mechanism will be employed with active support of police department and local civic organisations so that restrictions of the curfew will not be a bottleneck in delivery of rice to the public, the statement added.
