Schools, colleges to resume classes today

All the schools and colleges which have remained shut down in Manipur since September 11 following Government orders in view of the prevailing law and order situation and to protect the students from the ongoing movement for implementation of Inner Line Permit system would reopen and resume normal classes from tomorrow.
The decision to reopen the schools and colleges was taken during a high level meeting chaired by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and attended by his Council of Ministers, Chief Secretary, DGP and other top officials of Civil and Police today evening.
Talking to media after the meeting, Education Minister M Okendro, who is also the spokesperson of the State Government, said an indefinite holiday was declared in all schools and colleges in Manipur since September 11 in the interest of protecting the students from the possible impact of the ongoing movement over the demand for implementation of Inner Line Permit system in the State.
However, after a meeting between the Government and the students' wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) which is spearheading the movement, some understandings have been brought about on some points yesterday.
After discussing all these points of agreements and reviewing the prevailing law and order, today's meeting decided to reopen the schools and colleges to resume normal classes from tomorrow to ensure that the academic career of the students is not affected, the Government spokesperson said.
Informing that the today's meeting also expressed serious concern over using students as tool to press any demand and its impact on their study, the spokesperson appealed to all concerned to ensure that no disturbance is created to students in their study in future.
On the other hand, today's meeting discussed the unfortunate incident which took place at Hostel no.1 of NIT Manipur at Langol and in view of the misunderstanding such incidents could create appealed to all concerned to such incident are not repeated and not to spread baseless rumour.
The Government of Manipur has already taken up various measures including deployment of CRPF personnel in the NIT campus for the welfare of the students coming from outside as well as the local students, the spokesperson added.
