Employees to take mass casual leave

The JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO has announced that State Government employees would take mass casual leave from November 16 to 18 in pursuit of their demand for payment of salaries and other benefits recommended by the 7th Central Pay Commission.
Speaking to media persons at their Babupara office today, JAC general secretary L Biken said that they have been compelled to take mass casual leave due to the State Government's failure to pay any heed to the several demands put forward by Government employees, workers, pensioners and family pensioners.
The JAC would be constrained to launch more intense modes of agitation if there is no positive response by November 17 .
The course of agitation would decided at a meeting of the JAC's core committee and executive council.
As decided at the JAC's general council meeting held on October 8, an ultimatum (a charter of 22 demands) was served to the Chief Minister on the same day.
The ultimatum mentioned that Government employees would launch different modes of agitation including cease work strike if their demands were not fulfilled by October 26.In protest against the Government's inaction, State Government employees wore black badges from October 26 to November 3 .
The JAC sought an appointment with the Chief Minister on October 21 and again on November 9 but the Chief Minister refused to give an audience to the JAC.
The JAC signed an MoU with the State Government on May 19, 2010 but none of the points agreed between the two sides were translated into action, Biken decried.
The JAC's charter of demands include release of pending DA/DR, regularisation of work charge employees of engineering departments, upgradation of muster roll/casual workers to the status of work charge employees with the provision of retirement benefits, regularisation of contractual employees of different departments and amendment of daily wage structure in accordance to central norms, lifting ban on recruitment, establishment of Manipur Staff Selection Commission etc.
