ULB funds reduced

Urban Local Body or ULB's fund also known as assignment to local bodies and other aided institutions 2016-17 has decreased without any trace, said All Manipur Municipal Council & Nagar Panchayat Welfare Committee Treasurer Umila Devi during a press meet held at Manipur Press Club today.
The fund has decreased without any intimation to the concerned ULBs and with the decreased amount, there is apprehension that concerned ULBs will fails to furnish any developmental works in the local areas.
She said that though ULB's fund allocation are made with accordance to population of the specific area covered, the reduced non plan ULB's funds are not sufficient to cover any prominent developmental programmes.
ULB' fund for Heirok is said to be only Rs 5000 for a year.
As Chief Minister Okram Ibobi is the Minister of Manipur Housing & Housing Development (MAHUD), the local body representatives has been unable to have any form of interaction or meeting to discuss the inconveniences faced by the elected local body representatives.
It may be mentioned that honorariums marked for local body representative is very low.
She said the representatives are paid with Rs 1000 as honorarium.
Umila Devi who is also the vice chairman of Lilong Nagar Panchayat, Imphal West has urged the Chief Minister to look in to the matter at the earliest and to increase the ULB fund.
