Imphal, November 12 2016:
The ongoing economic blockade called by the UNC is yet another glaring example of Congress Government's failure to govern the State, the Bharatiya Janata Party president K Bhabananda Singh said in a statement.
There seem to be no mechanism to deal with the present situation, the BJP president continued.
"BJP is worried with the complete indifference of the State Government concerning the economic blockade that has been in force for six days now," Bhabananda said.
Petrol prices have soared up to Rs 300 per litre at black markets and school van services have stopped due to the blockade.
The BJP fears that the blockade will have a devastating impact on the life of the people if it continues, he said.
The president situation demands critical examination from the State Government.
Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, he said, seem deaf to the demands of the people unless drastic measures like economic blockades are taken up.
BJP has also appealed to the United Naga Council (UNC) and Naga Frontal Organisation to lift the economic blockade and look for other methods to express their demands.
"Fuel shortage does not impact the people who sit in the corridors of power.
It only impacts the common people," Bhabananda said.
He further urged the State Government to work out an agreement with the UNC and bring normalcy to the State.
On the other hand, the Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak (CCSK) today said the State Government should take full responsibility for all the difficulties faced by the people due to the UNC's economic blockade.
Citing all the difficulties faced by the common people, more particularly the daily wage earners, CCSK in a statement issued by its publicity secretary has demanded the State Government to take full responsibilities for the difficulties following the UNC blockade.
