24th Junior National Fencing Manipur, Haryana claim gold on day one

Imphal, November 12 2016:
The 24th Junior National Fencing championship 2016-17 organised by Manipur Fencing Association under the auspices of Fencing Association of India began today at Khuman Lampak Indoor stadium.
Lok Sabha MP Dr T Meinya; president of Manipur Fencing Association Th Joykumar and Director, JNIMS Dr L Deben attended the opening session of the championship as the dignitaries.
A total of 403 fencers (233 boys and 170 girls) will compete in the championship.

The opening day saw Manipur girls foil team beating Punjab girls by a margin of 45 points to 34 to claim gold in the final.
Maharashtra and Kerala teams settled for the bronze in the same category.
At the same time, Haryana clinched the boys team sabre title beating Services Sports Control Board (SSCB) by 45-26 points in the final.
Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab won the bronze in this category.
