Kangpokpi local bodies express concern over tense situation following alleged attack on AR post

Kangpokpi, January 12 2018:
Personnel of 38 Assam Rifles open fired for an hour over the alleged attack on its post at Kangpokpi by unknown miscreant yesterday evening.
The alarming incident created an extremely tense atmosphere among the people at DHQ and its surrounding areas.
The 38 Assam Rifles post located at the heart of Kangpokpi DHQs was allegedly attacked using Chinese hand grenades followed by firing from two different directions, which in turn compelled the AR personnel to retaliate by open firing at around 8.50 pm.
The people heard sounds of explosion and gun fire till around 10 pm, creating an extremely anxious situation in the entire District Headquarters.

Many Church goers were reportedly stuck at their respective Church till midnight while some stayed the night at their friend's houses.
The Assam Rifles post under the jurisdiction of ward No 11 is surrounded by many Government establishments including DC Complex, comprising of DC office and many other department offices in the west, District Hospital Complex comprising District Hospital, District Malaria Hospital in the north, Orthopedic hospital, Orphanage Home, KT School in the south and NH 2 in the east.
Later today morning, it was discovered that one domestic pig belonging to Lhingpi Khongsai, a resident of ward no 11 residing near the fencing of the AR camp was killed during the blank fire while most of the houses on the same direction bore multiple bullet marks.
Two crater left by grenade explosions were also found inside the AR camp near DC road while another unexploded grenade was found inside the camp, and the AR personnel along with bomb experts disposed the bomb safely at around 3.00 pm this afternoon.
However, no human casualty has been reported.
Meanwhile, the local civil bodies under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee including Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization, Kanggui Youth Union held an emergency meeting this afternoon at Kanggui Youth Union office chaired by Chonkam Kipgen, Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee.
The meeting vehemently condemned the alleged attack on the 38 AR Kangpokpi Post and demanded whoever was responsible to declare their motive at the earliest .
It also condemned the alleged provoked firing by the Assam Rifles personnel creating an uneasy atmosphere in the town.
It further resolved that the local civil bodies will not stay silent if any innocent civilian are harassed by the security forces due to yesterday's incident.
