Senapati, April 02 2019:
The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has strongly condemned the death of police constable SM Manjur Ahmad in police custody on March 30 after the escape of KCP leader Nando from JNIMS hospital.
According to the ANSAM, the police constable was suspended first and subsequently arrested on charges that his phone contact number was in Nando's mobile phone contact list.
"The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the incident is of the belief that it was inserted by the colleagues of Manjur Ahmad to frame the latter," cited the ANSAM.
The ANSAM then said that it is not strange that he was killed while in custody "as we are well aware that the State of Manipur is known for extra judicial killings and custodial deaths which reflect not only the lack of competent law enforcing agencies but also point to the serious human rights situation in the State" .
According to the ANSAM, there is no reason to justify the death of Manjur.
"The ANSAM demands an immediate judicial enquiry of his death and justice for him and his family," the Naga student body demanded.
