In a major breakthrough against smuggling of illegal drugs and contraband items, Khuga Battalion Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) foiled a drug smuggling bid today and seized 58 Kg Opium worth Rs 34.8 lakh.
Based on reliable intelligence, security forces established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post on National Highway 102B near Geljang village and intercepted a vehicle with two suspected drug peddlers, said a statement issued by PRO Assam Rifles.
On detailed search of the vehicle, 58 Kg of Opium worth Rs 34.8 lakh was recovered which was concealed inside the doors of the vehicle, added the statement.
The drug peddlers who were identified as Lulun Chongloi resident of Khopi Veng, Kangpokpi district and Haopu Toutsang resident of Aigejang village, Kangpokpi district and the seized drug were handed over to Churachandpur Police Station for further investigation, added the statement.
