Imphal, May 19 2021:
There is no greater virtue in life than extending assistance and saving the lives of those who are in need.
However, this is rarely seen in today's materialistic world where everyone is looking out for his/her own self-interest.
But, globally renowned climate and environmental activist Licypriya Kangujam, who is only 9 years old, is doing just that by providing oxygen concentrators to Covid-19 patients who are in need of oxygen, thereby helping to save their lives.
The prevailing second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic has ravaged the country in unimaginable ways, resulting in lakhs of deaths and an unprecedented shortage of oxygen, which in turn, has led to deaths of thousands of patients who could have been easily saved.
Amidst this grim situation, young Licypriya launched the "India Need Oxygen Mission" and has helped in saving lives of many people, thus earning her praises from all over the globe.
Speaking in this regard to a Canada news channel, CTV News, via video conferencing, Licypriya observed that India is facing a huge humanitarian crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with thousands dying on a daily basis and around 100 of the victims being children.
Many children have been orphaned while many people are losing their loved ones.
As such, she decided to use her savings as well as the funds she received as part of her climate activism to save lives.
So far, she has provided oxygen concentrators to over 100 Covid patients in need of oxygen and helped in saving their precious lives.
The 9-year old continued that her "India Need Oxygen Mission" is providing assistance through social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
Conveying that she had appealed to world leaders to extend help to India during these difficult times, Licypriya informed that Taiwan was the first country to respond by providing 100 medical kits including oxygen concentrators.
As per the suggestion of the people, a fundraiser has also opened, she said, while adding oxygen concentrators are being purchased from China and other countries to assist the people as much as possible.
Mention may be made here that Licypriya is currently living in Delhi and has been sending oxygen concentrators to Manipur to help the people, who sought her help via social media platforms.
Patients in need of oxygen concentrator have been asked to send in their Covid-19 positive report, doctor's prescription, patient's and the family's aadhaar and oximeter reading of the patient in bed through her Facebook messenger, as per her Facebook account.
