Imphal, November 17 2009:
Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur (ZSUM) has registered opposition over the proposed project of setting up Manipur Police Training Centre at Kamranga Khasia village under Tousem subdivision of Tamenglong district without the knowledge of the DC and SDO concerned.
A statement issued by the public relations secretary of ZSUM, Micah Kamei asserted that the union appreciated any development and welfare scheme but any systematic strategy to discriminate other neighbouring districts cannot be tolerated at all.
Stating that the proposed project has been designated under the jurisdiction of Jiribam subdivision of Imphal East district, the ZSUM statement pointed out that it is a clear case of systematic and mischievous act of discrimination driven by the thought of dishonest mindset.
It observed that the issue of placing Jiribam under the Central District (now Imphal East) from the erstwhile Manipur North-West subdivision, Tamenglong in 1969 by the then government led by M Koireng has been a discontentment of the people.
"The present attempt to construct MPTC at Kamranga Khasia village by placing it under the jurisdiction of Jiribam is another clever trick to devour a piece of landed area belonging to Tamenglong district bounded by Tousem subdivision and Tamenglong forest division," it stated.
Urging the government to review the proposed project in order to avoid controversies and people's resentment, it stated that timely intervention on the part of the authorities would only maintain stability and peaceful coexistence and enhance progress and development.
