Dr T Shantikumar Singh was conferred the prestigious Dr SC Parija Award of the Indian Academy of Tropical Parasitology (IATP) for his distinguished contributions in the field of tropical parasitology during the 11th National Conference organized by the Department of Microbiology, Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences, Gangtok, from September 6 to 8, 2017 .

According to a statement, this is a prestigious award given by IATP every year to eminent parasitologists from India and abroad in recognition of their contributions to the field of parasitology.
The award comprised a gold medal and a citation .
Dr T Shantikumar Singh is an ex-faculty member of the Department of Microbiology, RIMS, Imphal and presently working as a Professor and Head of Department of Microbiology, SMIMS, Sikkim .
He is the first recipient of this prestigious award from Manipur, second from Northeast States and ninth from India.
He is the pioneer in the research on Paragonimus and paragonimiasis commonly known as lung fluke diseases.
He was selected based on his 35 years of unwavering commitment towards elucidating all aspects of lung flukes and intestinal parasites.
