'Tax' demand sends back LPG trucks

Imphal, September 12 2017:
Two trucks which left Imphal yesterday on Imphal-Jiribam highway to ferry packed LPG cylinders from Silchar turned back following demand for payment of 'annual tax' by a major insurgent outfit while two other trucks managed to proceed to Silchar after negotiation .
The four trucks left Imphal for Silchar yesterday but they were halted at Nungba by cadres of a militant group .
The militants demanded 'annual tax' of Rs 8000 and another Rs 6000 for each trip per truck .
While two trucks turned back, the other two proceeded toward Silchar after negotiation .
The militants also looted five empty LPG cylinders and Rs 2000 in cash from one of the two trucks which returned to Imphal.
