Imphal, February 29 2016:
The 24-hour bandh called by the Meira Paibis and people of
Jiribam condemning the State Government's alleged negligence
over the demand to make Jiribam as full-fledged revenue district
has crippled the normal life in the area.
Roads wore deserted look and shops remained closed
throughout the bandh though vehicles carrying HSSLC
exam candidates were exempted from the purview of the
bandh.
Trucks carrying materials for National project were also
stranded at Jirighat.
Protesters said that the demand placed by the people of
Jiribam is reasonable.
Failure to consider the demand by the
State Government is very unfortunate.
Bandh supporters also burned the effigies of Chief
Minister O Ibobi Singh, Home Minister Gaikhangam and
local MLA Th Debendra at Jiribam Babupara this evening.
