Hunger striker Irom Sharmila freed

Irom Chanu Sharmila expressed her unhappiness over the failure of the public and civil society organisations to show solidarity to her during the course of her trial before the Court.
Anti-AFSPA crusader Irom Chanu Sharmila was speaking to media persons while coming out from the Cheirap Court building after Lamkhanpau Tonsing, CJM, Imphal West passed a judgment order today.
The CJM passed the judgment order in an open Court today.
The order mentioned that Irom Chanu Sharmila is not found guilty with the charge levelled against her under 309 (Attempt to commit suicide) and hence she has been acquitted of the charge against her under section 309 of Indian Penal Code.
The Court order further mentioned about the immediate release of Irom Chanu Sharmila as she is not required in any other cases.
Any bonds executed in connection with the case stands cancelled and discharged and thus the case has been disposed by the Court.
Irom Chanu Sharmila was brought to the Court complex by the security personnel from JNIMS Hospital Security ward where she is presently lodged in judicial custody remand of Imphal Central Jail.
She was personally present when the Judge announced the order in the open Court.
Advocate Ch Momon was the counsel of Sharmila while the State was represented by APP Mutum Ajitkumar.
Speaking to media persons after she was released by the Court, Sharmila said she is very sad and disappointed to see no one turning up at the Court complex in such a crucial time.
She also said that it has been more than 15 years that she has been fasting demanding repeal of AFSPA from the State.
It is unfortunate to see no one standing behind her on an important occasion like today.
She believes that the voice of the people is the voice of God.
Although she gets no support from the people contrary to her expectation, Sharmila said she will not lose hope on getting her demand and vowed to continue her agitation for the betterment of the State.
She strongly believed that truth will always win whether it takes time or not is another thing.
She also said that she will not look back and further reiterated her refusal to return home until she achieves her goal.
