Imphal, February 29 2016:
Meitei Huyen Langlon Sintam Shanglen (Satjal Academy), celebrated its 9th rising day at its newly opened branch at Heiningsoi, Yumnam Huidrom sponsored by the Universal Friendship Organisation today.
The celebration began with the Satjal members offering a general salute and hoisting the Satjal flag.
The members then took out a march from Huidrom Lampak to Hiyathen Lampak (Ibudhou Shankardev) followed by a public meeting.
Addressing the public meeting, Editor of The Sangai Express (Manipuri) Khogendra Khomdram said Satjal's (UFO) endeavour to promote and preserve the culture and traditional arts of the State is worth applauding.
During Oja RK Manisana's lifetime, Satjal academies taught traditional Manipuri Martial arts.
The unity among the Satjal members is the most impressive thing about the academy.
He further urged the masses to adopt the teachings of late Oja RK Manisana.
Bar Council of Manipur vice chairman Kangabam Rabei said late RK Manisana's efforts to revive a number of forgotten and abandoned Meitei cultural elements and aspects must be appreciated.
Satjal members are often seen as shabby habitual Ganja smokers who have little or no sense of personal hygiene.
These are mistaken notions, Satjal plays an important role in the revival of Meitei's lost cultural elements, he added.
Women Against Crime of Manipur founder secretary A Robita Leima said the efforts of Satjal academy should be supported.
Retired teacher Y Iboyaima was also present in the meeting.
