Extortionist in police net

A man involved in extortion has been arrested by police.
Police are now looking for his accomplice who is still at large.
Ayekpam Tomba (30) from Pukhao Naharup was apprehended by Imphal East District Police commandos on May 20.Tomba has been accused of serving a monetary demand note of Rs 80,000 to one Ningthoujam Jayenta (30) of Telouchana in Imphal East.
On Saturday, one Khangembam Tombisana, a relative of victim Jayenta, told a press meet at the Press Club here that some unidentified men who claimed to be cadres of 'old PREPAK' demanded Rs 80,000 from the victim on the night of May 12. Later, one unidentified man came to the house of Jayenta on May 19 around 11:30 pm and handed one hand grenade, one live round and one telephone number to his parents.
On May 20, Jayenta's family tried to contact the unknown man through the telephone number when it was confirmed that he had been arrested by Imphal East police, Tombisana said.
According to police, they are looking for another man named Mayengbam Ibomcha (31), also from Pukhao Naharup, involved in the extortion bid.
Meanwhile, a joint statement issued by Chand Village Development Committee and Chand Meira Paibi Lup today said they condemned the monetary demand issued to Jayenta of Telouchana by unidentified men and subsequent placing of explosives at his residence.
