AMSU seeks explanation from school authority on beating students

In an apparent violation of the provisions of Right to Education (RTE) Act, 26 hostellers of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur were allegedly thrashed by the school authorities giving no specific reason.
Talking to media persons in this regard at the head-office of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) here today, Secretary General of AMSU L Regan said that 26 Class-VII hostellers of Standard Robarth School ran out of their hostel last night in fear of severe thrashing by the warden and other hostel staff, and took refuge at Popular Club, Canchipur.
Meanwhile, they were taken away to the hostel by the school authorities today morning, and thrashed them severely inside the Principal's office room asking them to reveal the name of the hosteller who had used abusive words to the hostel's cook.
When inquired about the incident by AMSU volunteers, the hostellers denied using any abusive word to the cook.
Instead, the hostellers disclosed that the warden and other staff of the hostel used to threaten them.
So, they ran out of their hostel in fear of severe thrashing.
Later, they were handed over to their parents and seized all their ID-cards by the school authorities, Secretary General said.
Regan demanded the authorities of Standard Robarth School to give an explanation for their act of thrashing students at the earliest, maintaining that the RTE Act clearly prohibits beating and harassing of students in any case.
