On the occasion, Gaikhangam also appealed the people of Manipur to serve the society in different capacities.
Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam while speaking at the inaugural function as the president stated that frequent bandhs and blockades have led to gradual slowdown in the overall development of the State.
The Industry Minister also said that the State Government will soon begin implementing the Manipur Industrial and Investment Promotion Policy, 2013 soon with specific reference to grants and subsidy.
He said that 28 units from select industries out of 86 will be adequately taken care of by the State Government.
Kourouhanba Chief Executive Director P Kulachandra delivering the key-note address said, Kourouhanba Spices firmly believes that the "society can attain the rightful status among the other communities only when we can achieve economic independence." He said that economic independence can be achieved only when one can optimally utilize the resources available.
Due to lack of natural resource like minerals, coal, oil etc., the State depends on "agri-horicultural produces" for our economic development, said Kulachandra.
He stated that it was imperative that the State embarks on the path of systematic development and optimum utilization.
Pointing out that vast potential for agri-horticultural products in the State, he said pineapples, oranges of Tamenglong; lemons from Kachai, Ukhrul; passion fruits from Senapati District and Ginger and Cinnamon in Chandel District could be promoted through proper channelization instead of opting to fund festivals with "fashion shows" spending huge amount from State exchequer.
He also pointed out that there has been a gradual decline of all agri-horticulture produces and farmers, growers and the villagers have not benefitted much from the huge existing potentials.
MLA W Brajabidhu Singh, Chief Secretary of Manipur O Nabakishore Singh and Korouhanaba Spices Industry Managing Director P Dhanakumar graced the inaugural function.
