Thoubal, March 06 2013: Days after a huge consignment of banned drugs worth more than Rs 15 cores in the international market were seized from Army Colonel Ajay Choudhury at Pallel, Manipur Police Commandos, IRB and Manipur Rifles have seized drugs worth Rs 2.7 crore from a state government employee in Thoubal district.

According to the Thoubal police source, a joint operation of Manipur police commandos, IRB and Manipur Rifles was carried out in the areas of Sora, Moijing and Lilong of Thoubal district and arrested a drug smuggler from Lilong area identified as one Md Tahir Ali, s/o Jinat Ali from Lilong Sambrukhong and recovered Tetra DX (Pripolidine Hydrochloride and Pseudophedrine Hydrochloride) tablets from his granary at around 7 am today.

The seized drugs are worth Rs 2.7 crore in the international market, according to the police.

Md Tahir Ali is said to be working as a clerk in the Directorate of Fisheries Department, government of Manipur.

The security force personnel also recovered Rs 34,800 in cash from Tahir Ali.

The security team also resorted to firing around 10 tear gas shells when some women tried to stop the team from searching the house of one Nasir.

The joint security team also arrested another drug smuggler from Sora who has been identified as Ayub Khan (42), son of Yaima Khan of Sora Maning Leikai.

They recovered 990 tablets of Spasmo Proxivon tablets from Ayub Khan.

In the search at Moijing area, the team seized six strips of pseudo-ephedrine tablets from one Sitarjan Begum (40) wife of Riyaj Khan of Moijing.

They also recovered one Yamaha R 15 bearing registration number MN01B-7538 and a Honda Activa, which were believed to be stolen from one Md Kiyaj of Moijing Konjil.

In yet another operation conducted at Sora jointly by Kakching Police, Waikhong Police and Sugnu Police and Thoubal Commandos along with personnel of 8th Manipur Rifles posted at Leikhul, 1017 SP tablets, three N-10 tablets, 10 grams of Heroin (No 4), 10 syringes and Rs 12,450 in cash were seized from one Md Ayub Khan (44) of Sora Maning Leikai.

The police team has also detained a mason from Sora who is believed to be a Bangladesh national for further investigation.

SDPO Mangi of Waikhong Police Station, DSP Jotin and CO of 8th MR, Leikhul Md Feroz Khan led the search operation conducted at Sora.

The seized drugs and their owners are in police custody now.
