JCILPS to launch stir if Govt fails to table bill by Monday

Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) on Saturday threatened to re-launch a strong campaign against the State Government after March 3 next if the Government fails to introduce the proposed bill for the protection of the indigenous people of the state by Monday (March 2) .
JCILPS spearheading the agitation to implement Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) in the State further said it will boycott the ongoing session of the Manipur Assembly if the bill was not introduced before the end of current session.
A cabinet meeting convened on February 23 last ahead of commencement of the ongoing Assembly session discussed the proposed "Manipur Regulation of Visitors and Tenants Bill-2015" while resolving to table the same in the house during the ongoing Assembly session.
However, the same was yet to be tabled in the house even after three sittings.

"If a bill to protect the indigenous people and land of Manipur is not passed in the ongoing assembly session by March 2," JCILPS will boycott the last day session of the Assembly, JCILPS convenor Ibotombi Khuman announced at a press conference held at its office on Saturday afternoon.
He reminded that a meeting held at the Secretariat on February 18 last in which all the cabinet ministers, representatives of political parties having their offices in Imphal and legal experts had agreed to draft a bill.
At the meeting, the Chief Minister had assured to introduce the bill in the ongoing Assembly session.
Co-convenor of the JCILPS, Khomdram Ratan who attended the press conference insisted that Government must table an appropriate bill to protect the indigenous people and land by March 2 .
ILPS has also decided to organize sit-in-protests at various parts of the State on Sunday.
