286th Amamba Numit observed

Puya Mei Thakhibagi Apunba Ningsing Lup (PUMANIL), Kangleipak has observed 286th Amamba Numit commemorating the burning of Puya - the Royal Chronicle of Manipur.
A ritual was conducted commemorating the Amamba Numit (Dark Day) at Kangla and later a public meeting was organised at Lamyanba Shanglen, Imphal.
Chairman PUMANIL Leimapokpam Dhananjoy, MLA Keirao AC Lourembam Rameshwor, president i/c ACOAM-Lup Sanjit Soraisam, International Awardee H Ibotombi Khuman, president Kanglamei Y Leirik Leima, president KIL RK Sanahanbi, vice president UCM Ksh Somorendro, Pana Pandit Manipur Pandit Loishang Lai Loken, founder H Keinahal Memorial English School Langmeidong Huidrom Jiten and president CLK Ch Pakpi Chanu attended the event as presidium members.
Research scholar Akham Langol and Assistant Professor of Department of History, Standard College Dr L Basanti Devi spoke at the event as resource persons.
Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Keirao AC MLA Lourembam Rameshwor said that the episode of burning of Puya will always be remembered as a dark period in the history of the State.
Saying that the burning of the Puya is unfortunate for present and future generations to come, he appealed all to take up collective efforts to preserve what is left of the Puya.
ACOAM Lup president Sanjit Soraisam said that the observation was earlier organised by ACOAM Lup.
With many organisations coming together, PUMANIL was formed to observe Amamba Numit (Dark Day) since 2015, he said.
Recalling the aged incident, Sanjit said that Puya was burned on October 5, 1732 (17th day of Mera) during the reign of King Pamheiba under the influence of Shantidas Gosai.
