Imphal, February 25 2011:
Villagers who fled their homes following a "quit notice" allegedly served by Kuki National Front-President (KNF-P) have today returned home after the outfit clarified late last night that the allegation was a propaganda generated by rumour mongers to tarnish its image.
The KNF-P reassured the villagers returning home that no harm would be done to them.
About 300 villagers had fled their homes in batches out of fear and were accommodated in a relief camp in Sekmai until today.
Late last night a meeting had been convened at Sekmai PS to reach an understanding and a workable solution to the problem.
The meeting was attended by UCM, AMKIL, AMUCO, UMO, UPF, NIPCO, Mapi Council, Advanced Women Society etc.
in the presence of 43 AR, Minister N Biren and Aaron Kipgen, the KNF-P general secretary.
"If cadres of our outfit (KNF-P) are later found to be involved in the serving of 'quit notice' ultimatums or threatening people, they will be dealt with according to the law of the outfit and a befitting punishment will be given and the people of Manipur must remain calm and help each other in a condition of peaceful co-existence," Aaron Kipgen was quoted as saying by UCM vice president Y Nabachandra.
