UNLF cautions general public

Imphal, February 25 2011:
Citing several recent cases of illegal detention and arrest of innocent people by security forces, the proscribed UNLF has cautioned the people of Manipur to be always on guard.
In a press release issued by its senior publicity officer Ksh Yoiheiba, the outfit clarified that Potsangbam Netaji s/o Ibohal of Wangoi and Keithellakpam Dhanabir s/o Mohori of Khurai Soibam Leikai pulled up by Assam Rifles on January 29 and February 16 respectively were innocent civilians.
They did not have any relation with UNLF/MPA.
Though Suresh and Manglemba of Top Siphai were pulled up together by security forces in civilian fatigue in the intervening night of February 18 and 19, the whereabouts of Suresh still remains unknown.
Even as Manglemba has been freed, the fate of Suresh remains in the dark, the outfit noted.
For the people to save themselves from such heinous activities of security forces who are flouting all international norms and principles, forging unity and fighting them (security forces) is the only conceivable means, it asserted.
Though there was some respite in the killing of people in alleged fake encounters by security forces in the aftermath of the people's vociferous mass movement against Khwairamband killing of July 23, 2009, security forces have once again started arresting/killing people.
Even as security forces have been committing all kinds of excesses, the State Government does not the courage to utter a single word.
The people has nothing to expect from such a Government controlled by New Delhi, the UNLF asserted.
For the security forces, it is immaterial whether AFSPA is imposed or not.
They can detain or kill people anywhere, it alleged.
There have been numerous instances of security forces in civilian fatigue arresting people without furnishing arrest memo and they were instrumental in many cases of forced disappearance of people.
In addition, they have been killing innocent people in fake encounters under the false accusation of being UG cadres.
Reminding about the incident which happened at Sangai Yumpham where the local people overpowered a team of Assam Rifles and pushed their Gypsy into river, the outfit called upon the people to muster their courage and stand united against security forces.
People can save themselves by confronting the security forces collectively leaving aside all sense of fear, the outfit added.
