JNIMS Teachers' Association to join cease work protest of senior residents

Imphal, August 26 2018: As senior residents of Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) continue their indefinite cease work strike demanding provisions for promotions of regular senior residents/tutors/demonstrators to the post of Assistant Professor, JNIMS Teachers' Association has voiced its support to the agitating doctors.

Regular senior residents of the institute have been staging sit-ins in front of the office of the Medical Superintendent from August 21 protesting the "ambiguous" service rules, enforced since August 1, 2015.Concerned with the apathy of the JNIMS authority, the JNIMS Teachers' Association has submitted a memorandum to the Director of the institute yesterday, saying it will join the cease work protest if the JNIMS authority failed to pay heed and act on the demands of the senior residents of the institute by August 27 .

The decision was taken during an emergency general body meeting held on August 24.The memorandum of the JNIMS Teachers' Association signed by its vice president Dr Th Opendro and joint secretary Dr T Biram condemned the "inaction and inability" of the JNIMS authority in solving the issue that have plagued the health institute.

The memorandum commended the regular senior residents for their contributions and hard work towards the development of the institute.

The senior residents have been instrumental in recognition of the institute by the Medical Council of India.

They have been working in the forefront in establishment and conduction of the various PG courses in the institute, recommend the memorandum and justified the demands of the senior residents.

The teacher association reminded that a GBM held on August 7 had taken many resolutions for the welfare of the senior residents/demonstrators/tutors/casualty medical officers/lady medical officers, which were put before the JNIMS authority.

The GBM sought career advancement schemes, service protection including the elevation of 35 regular senior residents to the post of Assistant Professor.

The resolutions taken also include the demands for absorption of non-regular senior residents, proper pension scheme, time-scale promotion scheme and changes in the service rule 2015, informed JNIMS Teachers' Association.

It may be noted that the senior residents have been opposing DPC for recruitment of Assistant Professor of the institute.

A copy of the memorandum will be submitted to the Chief Minister who is also the president of JNIMS Society, said the association.
