Imphal, April 15 2013:
A Manipuri student studying in Delhi University's Hindu College reportedly committed suicide by strangling himself with a mobile phone charger at his hostel room on Sunday.
This was second case of suicide by a student in the college hostel in six months.
According to police, the body of 21-year old Chongtham Kripa, from Kakching, Manipur, a first year Music Honours student of Hindu College, University of Delhi, was spotted in room 175 of the hostel by his roommate in the morning.
The body was lying on a bed.
In a two-page suicide note, Kirpa blamed himself for the death.
The note reportedly said he was not keeping well and fed up with life.
He also said he was a "disobedient son".
The dead youth's father told police his son was taking medication for depression.
Police prima facie rule out foul play, as the suicide note mentioned he was suffering from depression and hence took the drastic step.
According to his family members, he had told them that he was unable to communicate with fellow students and had also talked about academic pressure.
The incident is eerily similar to the suicide of Shashi Shekhar, a 21-year-old student, who hanged himself in the same college's hostel room number 112 in November 2012 .
Meanwhile, Manipuri Students' Association, Delhi (MSAD) condoled the death of a fellow Manipuri student.
In a statement, the student body pointed out that depression is one problem many Manipuri students in Delhi are experiencing.
MSAD, therefore, appealed to the students pursuing higher education in Delhi to live a cheerful life free from depression, share their joys and sorrows with family or near and dear ones and help each other in one's needs.
