Anal Students' Union, Imphal (ASUI) has appealed to the State Government to immediately dismantle the old abandoned RCC Tera bridge over Duhan river in Rungchang village, Chandel district.
In a statement on Sunday, ASUI president in a statement said that the strong water current from Duhan river has swept down many logs, woods and uprooted trees and even inundated several areas.
The debris swept away by the flood water got stuck and piled up at the old abandoned RCC bridge blocking free passage of the river water causing frequent flood in the Rungchang village, the statement said.

The union further expressed disappointment that after the RCC bridge of Chakpikarong over the Chakpi river got snapped during the recent flood, the temporary makeshift bridge built by local denizens from their own resources was also swept away by the raging water of the river on October 9 .
The people in the area have been suffering since July last after the bridge was swept away by the flood.
The union urged the State Government to take up immediate measures to solve the plight of the people in the area and demanded immediate construction of a suitable bridge at Chikpikarong to end the untold miseries and suffering of the public.
