Dr Rochunga Pudaite passes away

One of India's most noticeable Christian ministers Dr Rochunga Pudaite passed away yesterday in a hospital in Colorado Springs, US sources said.
He was 88.'Dr Rochunga Pudaite, founder of Bibles For The World, went home to be with the Lord early Saturday morning after a brief stay in the Intensive Care Unit at a hospital in Colorado Springs.
The Pudaite family asks for your prayer during this time while final arrangements are being made.

The son one of the earliest native missionaries Rev Chawnga Pudaite, Rochunga founded Bibles for the World in 1971 and guided it till his least breath.
Over a hundred millions of Bibles have been mailed to over one hundred countries by the NGO that is also involved in many other projects around the world.

Pudaite along with his wife Mawii and their children spent most part of their life in Colorado Springs, Colorado and their story has been chronicled in a major motion picture called Beyond The Next Mountain and in Dr Pudaite's biography, Fire On The Hills.
His extraordinary life has also been recounted in James Hefley's book - God's Tribesman : The Rochunga Pudaite Story (Holman, 1977).He also authored at least two books - My Billion Bible Dream (Thomas Nelson, 1982) and The Greatest Book Ever Written (Hannibal Books, 1989) .
At home, he was the founder of Evengelical Free Church of India (EFCI) of which he was the incumbent Moderator.
He was the translator of Hmar Bible and is the man behind the establishment of several schools and colleges besides other vital institutions such as hospitals in several parts of North East India.
The Hmar Students' Association (HSA) Ghqtrs and the ADC Chairman Churachandpur Langkhanpau Guite have expressed anguish on his demise through separate statements issued today.
The HSA said it was deeply saddened by his demise and recalled his self-sacrificing pursuits for the down trodden, and for the Gospel while the ADC Chairman said his demise is a loss not just for a particular community but for all the Christians worldwide.
Family sources said the body of Dr Pudaite will be brought and buried here in Sielmat.
'His son John L Pudaite who was in Tripura at the time of his father's demise is currently on his way to the US.
Once he reaches there, memorial service will be held by Bibles for the World and only thereafter details of his home coming can be finalised,' said Mawite a family relative.
