Nemcha calls for bolstering cooperative movement in State

Imphal, December 02 2017: Acknowledging the services rendered by Renu Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited towards the upliftment of poor and needy women, Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Nemcha Kipgen called upon the cooperative societies in the State to come forward and be a part of cooperative movement to enhance economy of the State.
She was addressing the opening ceremony of 28th branch of Renu Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited held today at Hotel Classic Grande .
Speaking as chief guest, Nemcha Kipgen hailed Arambam Renu Devi, founder of Renu Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited for her tireless efforts and dedicating her whole life for upliftment of women's condition .
She observed that cooperative societies in the State have improved considerably as compared to few years back and as such, there is a scope for enhancing skill development as well as curbing the issue of unemployment in the State .
The Minister appreciated the fact that Renu Handloom & Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited is employing around 1110 members including 500 widow and orphans across 28 branches in 14 districts .
The 14 districts are Senapati, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Ukhrul, Imphal West, Imphal East, Kakching, Kohima, Pherzawl, Noney, Tamenglong and Kamjong .
Renu Handloom and Handicraft Cooperative Society Limited has upgraded itself to the National level and has been exporting its fine products to foreign countries as well.
In recognition of her remarkable services, Renu received the prestigious National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) Laxmanrao Inamdar National Award for Co-operative excellence award in 2017 as well as in 2012.She is recognized as a strong-willed and determined lady entrepreneur who takes care of the poor and the needy, the Minister said .
She also appealed to the people to have a habit of paying loan in time so that the bank can invest more to the cooperative societies for expanding and developing further .
It may be mentioned that the society which was set up in 1992 with 130 members has constructed two work sheds for handlooms and handicrafts separately with 36 embroidery machines and 26 handloom machines .
Its products are sold in different parts of the country and also exported to other foreign countries including Italy, Germany, China and Bangladesh .
Presiding over the function, Political Advisor to the Chief Minister, Dr RK Ranjan said that the opening of the branches of the society would instil the sense of work culture amongst the people .
He further said that we should support the cooperative movement in the State to generate more employment .
Ex-Minister Dr Khashim Ruivah and ex-Chairperson, IMC, Moirangjao Gangmei were also present at the occasion as guests of honour.
