What prompted the mob to behave in such a barbaric way could not be certain at the moment, but those customers said that they cannot control their anger after the bank authority announced to allow withdrawal of Rs.4000/- per customer but on the condition that there is guarantee that every customer on the line will get the money.
"This bank allow us to withdraw only Rs.2000 at a time and that too after standing in queue for around 3 days", said a senior citizen who join the act of vandalism.
He said with Rs 2000 how the family is going to be run as the price of essential commodities is sky rocketed with the price of potato reaching Rs.80 per kg.
" Now the Manager said that we will be allowed to withdraw Rs.4000/- but there is no guarantee that everyone in the line will get the money", another customer said.
But the bank manager of the SBI MU branch, Mr.Pranab Sen has another story to tell.
He said as the bank presently has limited stock of currency note he can't assured serving all the customers.
He further added that understanding the sentiments of the customers he had announced allowing withdrawal of Rs.4000/- per customer from their account and was agreed by every customer.
"The ruckus actually begins after a customer entered and said that he will not allow anybody to withdraw the money if he was not allowed to withdraw a sum of Rs.24,000", Pranab Sen said.
He further added that following an argument between the person and him he created ruckus prompting others to resort in violent activism.
The Security officer of the bank identified as Mutum Shyama sustained head injury while trying to control the angry customers.
