AR post attacked

Heavily armed cadres of an unknown group launched an attack at the 44 Assam Rifles post at Konkan under Kamjong police station this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the proscribed RPF claiming that the attack was carried out by its (PLA) Tactical Command team said six AR personnel were killed, injured several others and destroyed two of the barracks.
using sophisticated weapons such as RPG and M-79 the fierce onslaught was laun-ched from around 3.30 pm when the D Coy 44 AR personnel were attending fall-in, said chief of RPF's Department of Publicity Bangkim in a statement issued tonight adding that all its cadres returned unharmed.
Further informing that today's attack is a part of the outfit's plan to for a series of similar action, Bangkim asserted that RPF/PLA will continue to wage war till Manipur's independence is not restored.
He also advised Indian security force personnel to rethink about their presence in Manipur and conveyed gratitude to all concerned for the encouragement to its cadres.
According to our Ukhrul correspondent Mungchan Zimik, an exchange of gunfire ensued for at least half an hour.
However, no casualty from either side has been reported.
The attackers were said to be armed with sophisticated weapons, including rocket launchers.
The site is located in the border area.
Surrounding villagers were gripped with fear and apprehension following the fierce gunfight,
added Mungchan.
