Imphal, February 27 2011:
While appealing to the teachers to suspend their agitation in view of the Class X and Class XII examinations, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has stated that both the Government and the agitating teachers should retract their positions a bit.
Speaking to media persons at Maphou Dam site during an inspection tour of the dam construction work today, Ibobi said that all demands cannot be fulfilled 100 per cent.
Stating that the State has no resources to fulfil the teachers' demand in totality, Ibobi lamented that the teachers rejected the Government's offer for increased DA and other allowances equivalent to the amounts being received by Central Government employees.
Nevertheless, the teachers' demand is being examined very seriously, Ibobi said.
Meeting the teachers' demand would entail serious problems for the State as the Government is bound to extend the same benefits to other employees who have been getting similar pay scales, the Chief Minister reiterated.
Citing the difficulties of the Govt, the CHief Minister urged the teachers to return to their duties.
