Imphal, August 19 2021:
Even as the BOSEM (Class X) and COHSEM (Class XII) examinations for the year were not conducted and all Class X and XII students promoted on certain criteria due to the Covid pandemic, many students and guardians are not satisfied with the conditions under which the students were promoted.
One such student is Nikolas Ngangom, a student of MI Academy, Canchipur from Haoreibi Awang Leikai.
Nikolas said that he was certain he would score at least 85 percent overall in the BOSEM examination, but the marks allocated to him are much lesser than what was expected.
Nikolas got 80 percent marks in the board examination.
Saying that he is considering appearing for the improvement examination, the young student, however, said that the examination will have little meaning if it is delayed.
Another Class XII student of CC Higher Secondary School, Andrew Tayenjam also expressed disappointment with the marks allocated to him.
He said that this year's promotion system has dented his academic career.

The student from Keishamthong Moirang Ningthou Leirak said that this year's promotion system has robbed him of the opportunity to make up for the mistake he made in Class X and XI examinations.
Saying that he had prepared to get at least 90 percent in the COHSEM examination but since he could score only 75 percent in his Class X examination, only 65.1 percent were allotted to him in Class XII.
Many schools have also expressed disappointment with the assessment mechanism on which the performance of Class X and XII students were decided.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, one Principal of a Higher Secondary School, on the condition of anonymity, said that many promising students ended up getting low marks due to the lapses in the assessment mechanism of COHSEM.
Saying that the marks allocated to the students were based on their performance in Class X and XI results and academic activities in Class XII, the Principal stated that many students who scored good marks in Class X and XI examinations were not given any mark for the academic activities in Class XII.
As a result of this, many students are unable to meet the cut off marks for gewtting admission in the colleges of their choice, he said and added that COHSEM, however, is not able to see the technical issue in their assessment mechanism.
He also said that the assessment mechanism not has many flaws but is also doing injustice to many students.
Topper at St Joseph Higher Secondary School, Sangaiprou Class 10 batch Anganba Ningthoujam also said that the condition on which the performance of the students were decided is unsatisfactory.
The student exuded confidence that he could score more than the marks given to him.
A Professor at DM College, on the condition of anonymity, also stated that the sudden hike in the pass percentage of students of this Class X and XII is self explanatory that the assessment mechanism of BSEM and COHSEM is inadequate.
Saying this process of BSEM and COHSEM will create confusion at the time of admission to higher secondary and colleges, the Prof asked if all the students passed out this year can be accommodated in higher secondary and colleges as infrastructure at educational institutions were not upgraded in advance.
Even at DM College, many students who fulfilled the cut off marks applied for admission, but the intake capacity is very limited, he added.
