Imphal, July 06 2015 :
Despite heavy rain a large number of Women Wing volunteers of the Joint committee on Inner Line permit System (JCILPS) held a protest rally at the busy Khwairamband roads in the noon today demanding the State Government to implement a more rigorous law to check the influx of non-locals in the State.
The protesters later tried to storm the Manipur Assembly complex where the Monsoon Assembly Session is being held.
The protest rally began from Wahengbam Leikai.
Protesters holding banner reading "The State Government should not implement a law that cares for and protects the outsiders" marched Khwairamband Keithel road towards Manipur Assembly complex raising slogans like 'Long live Manipur' and 'Implement inner line permit system' .
Police personnel present at the market area tried to contain the march but the protesters managed to pass the police barricade and marched up to the Congress Bhavan gate.
Police personnel closed the gates of Congress Bhavan in an attempt to prevent any kind of untoward incident.
Later a large number of Imphal West police personnel led by Lalboi Haokip Additional SP, Traffic and a large number of women police personnel stopped the women protesters resulting in a tense stand off.
Later the women were forced to turn back from Kangla Western gate to where they started the protest rally.
Speaking to media persons one of the protesters said that they are totally against the Manipur Regulation of Visitors, Tenants and Migrant Workers Bill, 2015 which was passed by the State Government in the last Assembly session.
The Bill, she stated, is against the sentiments of the people of the State.
She also said that the Women Wing JCILPS will not remain silent but continue with a more intensified form of agitation if the Government refuses to take up necessary measures for protection of indigenous people from the onslaught of incessant influx.
