Troops of Jwalamukhi Battalion under the aegis of Senapati Brigade of Red Shield Division apprehended Commander � in � Chief of Thadou People Liberation Army (TPLA), an outfit active in Sadar Hills district, in an operation carried out on June 3.According to a statement issued by the PIB (DW), Imphal, based on specific inputs regarding presence of a senior cadre of TPLA in village Bethel Veng of Senapati district, an operation was launched by troops of Jwalamukhi Battalion and the leader of the militant outfit was apprehended.
The insurgent leader identified himself as Nekholen Lhouvum alias Helen (45) s/o L Sehkhothang Lhouvum of L Haibung, Kpi PS, Senapati district.
He confessed of being an active cadre of TPLA and holding the rank of 'Commander-in-Chief' of the group.
The individual also confessed of being involved in various nefarious activities including, kidnappings, incidents of shootings and extortion in Sadar Hills district along with his group members.
The individual was in possession of one 9 mm Pistol (USA made), one 9 mm magazine, five live rounds of 9 mm, one mobile and two Kenwood (Motorola) sets at the time of apprehension.
He was later handed over to Imphal West PS, it added.
Meanwhile, a team of Imphal West district police commando arrested one active member of PLA/RPF while conducting cordon and search operation on June 4 around 10.30 am at Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai area.
According to a statement issued by the PRO of Police Dept, the arrested PLA/RPF member has been identified as Labuktongbam Tejkumar Sharma alias Ibomcha (53) of Yaiskul Hiruhanba Leikai.
Investigation revealed that he along with his associate namely Urikhinbam Sanjoy of Khurai Thangjam Leikai had served monetary demands and extorted a huge amount of money from different oil tankers in Imphal West.
Investigation further revealed that he had extorted a sum of Rs 30,000 from one of the oil pumps in Imphal West.
Again at around 12.30 pm, on his further disclosure, another active member of PLA/RPF namely Urikhinbam Sanjoy (37) of Khurai Thangjam Leikai was also arrested.
Incriminating articles were seized from his possession.
A case has been registered at Imphal PS and investigation is going on, it added.
