JCILPS member remanded to judicial custody

The Court today sent an executive member of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) to judicial custody till August 16 as he refused to secure his release on bail.
Pukkrambam Arjun, who is also a member of All Manipur Bar Association, was arrested by police from near Yumsha Chicken, Keishampat on July 28 .
Arjun refused to pay the bond bail amount even as he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West with the completion of seven-day police custody remand.
Speaking to reporters outside the Court complex, All Manipur Bar Association President Kh Mani said that Arjun pleaded the Court through a written application to discharge from the case under 59 CrPc.
During the hearing of the case, police reported the Court that Arjun was arrested as an active member of PREPAK (Pro) working under the command of Langamba and for his alleged invlovement in extor- tion and other activities, Mani added.
He said that P Arjun was arrested from near Yumsha Chicken, Keishampat for his involvement in pro-ILPS agitation.
After he was taken to the Police Station, he was accused of being an active member of PREPAK (Pro), he said.
In today's hearing, Mani said, police sought judicial remand for P Arjun so that they can carry on further investigation.
However, after perusing the arguments raised by both defence and prosecution sides, the Court granted bail to Arjun on surety bond of Rs 30,000 .
However, as Arjun denied to pay the bond amount and pleaded for unconditional release, he was sent to judicial custody till August 16 .
