Over Rs 20 lakh recovered

Against the public fund withdrawn from the account of Agriculture Department when there was blanket ban on withdrawal of Government funds, over Rs 20 lakh has been recovered by the high power committee under the Manipur Public Servant Personal Liability Act.
Annual report of the State Vigilance Commission was tabled at the State Assembly yesterday and it reported that the high power committee headed by the Chief Secretary recovered around Rs 20 lakh.
When there was a ban on withdrawal of funds, some officials of Agriculture Department withdrew Rs 28,58,112 in cahoot with some officers of Treasury.
The total amount of Rs 28,58,112 was withdrawn from Thoubal Treasury, Kakching Treasury, Ukhrul Treasury, Bishnupur Treasury, Tamenglong Treasury and Lamphel Treasury.
Against this amount, the high power committee recovered Rs 20,11,272 by December last year.
Altogether 95 cases were registered with the Vigilance Commission 'last year.
These included 72 complaints from public, 11 complaints from Government and 12 complaints from sources.
Of all the enquiries conducted by the commission last year, major penalties were recommended in seven cases.
The commission also recommended minor penalties against officials involved in four cases.
FIRs were registered in five cases last year and charge sheets were filed in four cases out of the five.
In one case, the accused was convicted.
The total amount recommended by the commission for recovery by the high power committee from officials from different departments was Rs 1,54,15,509 as per the annual report.
