Unidentified gunmen shot dead five youths at Khergao Awang Leikai Keikhu Leirak Machin under Porompat Police Station last night at around 11.20.The five youths have been identified as Md Sajid s/o Siraj Ahmed of Khergao Makha Leikai, Md Sikander (22) s/o Bashir of Keikhu Mayai Leikai, Md Samidur Rahaman (22) s/o Kora of Khergao Makha Leikai, Md Belan (18) s/o Md Bashirjan of Khergao Makha Leikai and Md Muna Mustaf (14) s/o Md Idul of Khergao Makha Leikai.
According to family members, the five youths were gunned down by well armed persons numbering about thirty after forcing them to lie down on the road.
The youths were playing carom at a shop near the gate of one Md Ibothem of Khergao Awang Leikai when the armed men surrounded them.
Sources said that the gunmen who were armed with AK 47 rifles and 9 mm pistols left the place after committing the crime and firing several rounds in the air.
Out of the five victims Md Samidur died instantly at the spot while the rest succumbed to their injuries at JN Hospital.
Prior to the shooting of the five youths, the gunmen were said to have searched for one Thoibi, allegedly a tablet dealer of Khergao Sabal Leikai.
They even entered into her residence and fired some rounds in the air in the courtyard.
Sources said that Thoibi was not only a tablet dealer but had recently been smired in controversy for beating some Meira paibis of the area.
Porompat PS has registered a case in connection with the incident.
Post mortem was conducted on the five bodies at RIMS morgue today.
According to another report, a nineteen year old student was killed and three others injured when a bomb exploded inside St Mary School campus located at Kholen Khailet village near Sajik Tampak yesterday afternoon at 3.According to reports culled from the site, the incident occurred when the students were carrying out social service inside their school campus.
The deceased students has been identified as Paul Zou (18) s/o Houshongpau Zou of Khongtal village while the injured students have been identified as Ngamingthang (12) s/o Daojakhup of Hiekha Village, Paojanao (14) s/o Haokhalien of Songhen Village and Poulenlal (13) s/o Mangkhohao of Molen Village.
All the injured were immediately rushed to the nearby army hospital and treated for their wounds.
