Imphal, April 23:
The imposition of a draconian law like the AFSPA in a particular region of a democratic country like India clearly reflects the callous attitude of the leaders towards the citizens of the country, opined National Federation of Indian Women general secretary Sebha Farooqui.
Speaking at the 32nd State conference of All Manipur Nupi Marup at Bal Vidya Mandir Hr Secondary School Porompat today, Sebha Farooqui said that role played by Manipuri women in the agitation for removal of AFSPA and other important issues of the State is praise worthy as such involvement of women folk in social issues are hardly witnessed in other parts of the country.
She also stated that women in other parts of the country should also learn from their Manipuri counterparts and take up works to develop their respective societies.
Asserting that the State's problems would never be solved until and unless the Central Govt pays more attention and provides new economic package, she urged the CPI leaders who are part of the ruling SPF Govt to take up appropriate steps to provide seats to the women vendors who are yet to get their allotted seats even after shifting into the new temporary market shed.
For the first time since India's independence, the survival of the Govt at the centre depends on the support of the Left parties, said Sebha adding that Left parties have been supporting the Govt on the basis of the CMP to check the Govt from implementing anti-people policy.
