Imphal, December 20 2009:
Manipur has forgone some rare chances of hosting North East Business Summits and other international conferences all because of lack of modern infrastructure.
There have been instances when the DoNER Ministry and the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) proposed Manipur to host business summits and international conferences with a view to foster closer economic relationship between the Northeastern States and South East Asian countries under the Look East Policy, said an official source.
But the State has been unable to capitalise on such rare opportunities as it has no proper infrastructure to host international summits which would be participated by foreign diplomats, businessmen and other VVIPs.
Meanwhile, a new scope of encouraging investors in the field of private health industries in the Northeastern States have been incorporated in the North East Business Summit scheduled for January 8 and 9 at Kolkata.
The summit would be organised by the DoNER and ICC.
The State Government would be recommending Shija Hospital and Research Institute, Babina Diagnostic Centre, Raj Polyclinic and some other private hospitals for participation in the business summit, further said the source while speaking to this reporter.
